Oh The Holidays!

I LOVE the holidays! The holidays are something I have always celebrated to the fullest. When I became a medical mom, that made me want to ensure we celebrate each holiday even more as we don’t often get to do a lot of “normal” things as a family.

Leading up to Easter, I was so excited to celebrate with my family. Mason has reached a developmental point where we could actually do an easter egg hunt for him. I opted not to colour eggs because Mason is still severely allergic to eggs and they are a pretty messy craft, but I made sure we would have turkey dinner, which is also my favorite. I went to the store and strategically bought chocolate that would be great to do an easter egg hunt with: small enough chocolate that Mason wouldn’t be eating too much, but big enough that he would be able to find them all easily. I ended up buying some new books and a sensory toy for Dylan as he was quite ill leading into Easter weekend. Which leads into my next thought. It just wouldn’t be the holidays for my family if it didn’t include at least one hospital visit! I can’t remember the last time we were able to fully celebrate a holiday without one. It’s almost expected now.

Sure enough, Dylan’s vomiting was pretty persistent leading into Easter. We went to the Emergency room on Wednesday for 6 hours of IV fluids and some extra potassium to keep him hydrated. He was okay for a little bit after that, but alas, we were back in the Emergency room Saturday for 5 more hours of IV fluids due to vomiting. I was pretty heartbroken as I thought this was it for our weekend and we wouldn’t be able to do an Easter egg hunt, or have turkey dinner as a family. Thankfully it was another shorter stay and we were back home in the evening Saturday. I woke up early Sunday and managed to get Mason’s easter egg hunt set up right before he woke up. He loved it and did a great job finding them all! Dylan was so happy to have new books and his sensory toy to play with. One of my best friends joined us for turkey dinner and brought some gifts for the boys that they enjoyed playing with as well. I still managed to make the most of my Easter with my family!

Did you know that Save-On Foods has meal kits with turkey dinner already prepared for you? I knew about this as we had tried it once before. I had a feeling our weekend wouldn’t go as planned with all of Dylan’s vomiting, so I ordered one early in the week. It took like 45 minutes to heat everything up in the oven. No prep-work, small amount of dishes, and a delicious turkey dinner with leftovers! It was perfect.
