Laundry - My Nemesis

Laundry. My most hated chore to do. When I was given the run down of chronic kidney disease and everything to expect, laundry was not on the list of topics that were discussed. When Dylan is having bad days and isn’t feeling well, the amount of laundry increases dramatically. It's never ending. Especially with another toddler who loves to be messy!

Laundry can be a days worth of games depending on how you look at it. I always start my laundry off with a scavenger hunt. I need to search all over the house to make sure I got every piece of dirty laundry. Every time I start the washing machine, I always know I’m going to walk away and find something else that will make me stop it to throw it in. Apparently I’m not good at scavenger hunts because it happens almost every time. Then I sit and wait to see if I balanced the stupid thing properly. Once the washing is done, the next game begins. Memory. Can I remember that there’s a load of laundry in the washing machine that needs to go in the dryer before it needs to just be washed again? It’s a 50/50 gamble depending on the day. Next is the last game. Tetris. I have to fold the laundry that needs to be folded and put it away neatly in everyone’s room. Seems easy and simple doesn’t it? Sometimes it is until you get to the fitted sheets. I’ve started just rolling them in a ball and putting other blankets on top so it appears like it’s been folding nicely. So far no one has commented on it so I think my Tetris skills have been giving a good appearance!

I saw a meme one day that I’ve related so much to: “based on the amount of laundry I do each week, I’m going to assume that there are people who live here that I have not met yet”. I think I have a village of people living in my house sometimes. Washing the laundry is one thing, but actually folding and putting away laundry is a whole different story. Sometimes, it’s just easier to pick out of the dryer until it’s gone rather than folding it and putting it away. Does wrinkly clothing really matter for a child? Do wrinkly receiving blankets matter? It could be a new style!
